This winter has been really mild. It is crazy how we have only had a few days of snow. It's now March and spring will be upon us making me day dream about what my garden should look like! I have always wanted a small trug like the ones made by
Barbers Baskets. It has feet on the bottom to keep the basket off the wet ground will you are cutting flowers or picking vegetables. Made of Myrtle wood & copper nails, it would look lovely on the counter top filled with all you tomatoes, peppers and onions!
This summer I will be growing my usual tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and sweet peas.... I will be adding one more vegetable. Maybe cucumber? garlic?
as well as all my herbs!! My herb garden has grown quite large with basil, rosemary, 2 types of thyme, 3 types of oregano, 2 types of chives, tarragon, 2 types of sage. I can't wait to cook this summer!
My flower garden..... peonies and roses...... which I have been neglecting. I need to expanded the flower selection and design the back garden. I would love to have vintage flowers such as:
Peonies: these are similar to what I have in my garden now. I have 19 of them! They are my favorite
Roses: I wish my roses would bloom is profusion as these!! I need to figure out how to take better care to get this many blooms!!
Sweet Peas: These are just lovely! I think I really need to add these to my garden., The Spanish Dancer. Such a romantic name for a flower!!
Delphiniums: These are tall and showy! I would love to place these along my fence with a wood horizontal fencing to hold them back. They would look amazing in my back along the aged wood fence mixed with foxglove with the sweet peas below.
Foxgloves: These showy flowers would look amazing mixed with the Delphiniums, the textures between the two flowers would look amazingly beautiful.
Pinks: Also know as Dianthus or in the medieval times Gillyflowers. They are just that punch of bright colour needed; In the garden or in food!
Hydrangeas: these wonderful plants make me smile. There big globes of flowers and big leaves are great for a border or along a pathway. I have 4 of these in my front garden, which they did not bloom as well last summer.... I think the heavy winter we had last year really stunted all my flowers last spring and summer. So, I am hoping for a bigger show this year! But I would like to buy a few of these plants for the back garden this spring!
as well as "How to Grow Hydrangeas!
Honeysuckle: I remember sucking the nectar from these blooms when I was little. A neighbor introduced me to the wonderful sweet taste of honeysuckle. The blooms are gorgeous reaching for the sun, while the roots like shade! I have a perfect area to plant and grow these humming bird attracters! I bought a wood arch 2 summers ago, so I think I will install by my bedroom window between my house and the fencing. I have a lilac tree there which will provide the shade for the roots, but sunlight for the flower and vines to reach up!
Hollyhocks: These dark beauties are going to be in my garden to help ground all the pink! I love the deep dark moody feel of these gorgeous blooms! I also adore chocolate cosmos, that come in this colour!! such a beautiful colour. Don't you aree!?
Annuals: I know that I am a bit crazy, but I like to buy a few packet seeds of pretty annual flowers and I just sprinkle them throughout my garden all hodge podge. I don't do anything else, I just sprinkle and let me grow. I like to be surprised at what grows and flourishes. I know crazy right! But I have luck with these:
Cosmos My neighbor gave me a bag of seeds, I sprinkle them in the spring in the back area of my gardens along walls and fences. They grow to about 3 feet tall. The flowers are sweet and delicate.
I am ready for spring and the growing of flowers, herbs and vegetables!
Are you having spring fever like I am?
