Anglesey Abbey, Gardens & Lode Mill
Cambridgeshire England
The Augustinian priory at Anglesey was built in 1236. after 400 years of religious life, Henry VII in 1536 dissolved the Abbey.  It was then owned by the Parker family, who turned it into a country home. In 1848 Reverend John Hailstone acquired the house and was most likely responsible for christening the house "Anglesey Abbey" .
In 1926 Lord Fairhaven and his brother Henry Broughton purchased the Abbey.  They employed top London Architects to perform alterations wile taking great pains to retain the original stonework and features of the 12th century priory. Upon the Lord Fairhaven's death Anglesey Abbey was entrusted into the care of the National Trust in 1966.
"My thought and hope is that in a changing world the, its furniture and its arrangement, and the gardens and their layout should be preserved and kept representative of an age and a way of life that is quickly passing"
Lord Fairhaven, 1964

Cup of Tea and starting to feel better

Cup of Tea

Hello all,
Sorry, I have been out of the loop for the past four days. I have been sleeping trying to get rid of this nasty flu / cough lung thing. I actually feel better tonight.
I have never hurt so much ever! It even hurt to move my fingers. I slept soooo much, that I actually woke up at 230 am last night wide awake. Did get to read a few blogs, and post this morning. Then I slept until 400pm this afternoon woke up feeling a bit better. Now just having a cup of tea and trying to catch up on some good blog reading.
I have so much to tell you, which I will wait until after the weekend. But I did close on the house and I should be moving in the next few weeks.
I need to take a photo of the back yard for Liz, Violet Posy.... the entire backyard in covered in pretty wild violets!!
Please stay healthy.... I don't wish this on anyone.
miss you all tons,
xx

In Honour of Mrs Follett, I am dreaming romance

Since, Rachel from Design Lovely & Dwellings and Decor has been posting bits about her wedding design, and is now away on her romantic honeymoon.... and being a girl, I began to dream....
     well,
This would be my dream destination wedding....
The Tower, near Edinburgh Scotland

Arrive to a grand house

Perhaps in the evening, in a horse drawn carriage. So romantic. (groom to be, must be in kilt, *sigh*)

a walk and rest in the kitchen garden, lovely boxes. Love the finials on the corners with the rocks surrounding the garden.

Dinner in the grand dining room. How brilliant are those chairs covered in plaid. and the ceiling arched, like it was built in the cellar (maybe dungeon)

One of the many bedrooms, the ceiling is fantastic with the wood beams and the cosy fireplace.
The bathrooms are even romantic!
I adore the hand painting along the wood canopy of the main bed. Check out the amazing hardware on the doors, those hinges are brilliant!  This room is just f fantastic! This would be my room! oh, and who ever I would marry:)

Then the stairs, *sigh* pretty much all old manses in scotland are stone and are circular similar to this one.... seams they have added carpet and plastered over the stone, to update it a bit. It still is quite charming!Up the stairs to a magnificent bathroom! LOOK AT THAT TUB!!!!! *eeeeeee*Then of course there would be many walks around the grounds!

The Tower, an historic 16th Century fortified Scottish tower. Completely restored to showcase its original features, includes 20 acres of private land with a secluded Laich (a small, Scottish lake) It's only 20 miles east of Edinburgh. It has 5 floors above the vaulted ground floor, with 6 bedrooms {sleeps up to 12}.  Relaxing in the Grand Hall sipping a dram of the Tower's 25 year old malt whisky by the log fire!
What am I thinking, forget the wedding.... I just want to live there!!!! *sigh*

My apartment has not be rented out and they won't let me stay the two weeks I need to move and get everything cleaned ...even though I offered to pay the whole rent. I can't get passed the girl who takes the calls (mind you, she is never nice) SO
I am going to go into the office this after noon to speak to a manager. Wish me luck.
You'd think that since they have 6 empty apartments that they would love to receive my payment.... but hey, I don't understand the way some people do business.... I will keep you all posted. I hope I am not homeless by the end of next week.
Gosh, I need a drink!

OBSESSION: UK Magazines and a few others

My obsession is not current, I have always had this obsession.... it has just become worse! Last week I went by the bookstore by my work, where the Manager once asked me what magazines would I like to see them carry.  I promptly responded any magazines from the UK.  Well, she listened to me She ordered at least 7 different magazines where I quickly picked up the following:

With this months issue April 2009 featuring Jo Barryman's home. *sigh* I loved her house with the collection of skulls, the colours, the boldness and the edgy modern design mixed with beloved vintage pieces: see for yourself
my beloved Vivienne Westwood rug on the wall {be still my heart}

Country Homes & Interiors

Plus a few others:

Everyday Rachel Ray, and Country Living

I think I went a bit over board with magazines this month, my bag was quite heavy.
What are your favorite magazines?
