PRODUCT: Counting Sheep

I am in the process of designing my guest bedroom.  (note: posts on design to come in the next few weeks!)  Researching beds and frames has been such an obsession this week and when I came across this hand made mattress company it made me wish I lived in the UK to order one of these fabulously made beds.
I hope to have the room completed by next week, since I have out of town guests that will be arriving so I will need to have a place to sleep!
I am excited to show you this room since it is very different than the rest of my house.  I actually used colour on the walls (my beloved grey in only on the trim!) This is a huge step for me. Plus, the bedding from anthropologie and the great collection of throw pillows from Liberty of London adds texture, pattern and colour!
Can you tell I am really excited about this room!  I can't wait to show you!!!!

Reading about this company made "counting sheep" an whole new story for me!

Spink & Edgar
A company with great heritage, six generations dedicated to manufacturing the best beds. The company began with a collaboration of Arthur Spink and Joseph Longley in 1885 In Leeds UK.  All the beds were made by hand without compromise to quality.
Today, Simon Spinks has taken the company to a evan higher level of quality.  He purchased a local farm to enable him to supply the raw materials for their "Natural Collection Mattresses" incorporating the products from the farm to help reduce the impact on the environment; wool, flax, and hemp.  With the product produced locally it cut down on the travel distance of the product from 12,000 miles away to the local hills of Yorkshire 20 miles away dramatically reducing their carbon emissions from transport.

With 6 collections of mattresses to choose from; each handmade with natural materials ranging from hempure, Cashmere hair and wool to horse hair blended with Tencel an advanced luxurious fiber that helps regulate sleeping temperature which is also inherently anti-bacterial and anti-microbial. Tencel fiber is from a fast growing evergreen eucalyptus tree that is a green, eco fibre of the future.
Filling and Support:
  • Top fill: Superior Yorkshire wool blend
  • Second fill: Egyptian Cotton, Mohair, British New Wool
  • Third Layer: Waxed Cambric Sheet
  • Fourth Layer: Handteased blend of Hempure, Cashmere Wool, Cashmere Hair, and long strands of white hair

INSPIRATION: Graphic and stripes, oh my!

Area rugs!  I am always in search of fabulous area rugs. I switch them out in my rooms as often as people switch out their throw pillows!  I find it changes the entire look of a room.  I prefer 100% wool rugs for the ease of cleaning and durability.  They can be expense, but I will let you in on a little secret! Ikea!  They have a wonderful selection of handwoven wool rugs! They are well priced and sometimes you can find them in the as-is section for even 65% off, like I did last week!! (see future, guest room post!)

Here are some rugs that I have been coveting lately!
Where do you find great area rugs??

DESIGNER: Cottage, surfer girl paradise

I completely feel head over heals on this cottage! Just look at that scalloped fence.  It's much prettier than a picket fence, with its curves and slats. Then the flower just push it right over the top in prettiness!
I adore built in cabinetry. And this lovely piece is just styled perfectly with the books and the huge shells.   I like how the chairs are painted a glossy white, they are busy chairs with the backs but they simply blend with them painted white.
Can someone tell me where to get this bed frame??  I love the turned look! Then we have the curvy golden yellow lamps sitting on the fantastic nesting tables! The room is simple but has punchy colour to amp up the energy. (love that single piece of artwork about the bed! simplicity at its best!!)
Sweetness!  Just look at the soft pink details with the punctuating black on the white background.  Simply sweet, just look at the snail vase with pretty flowers.  The bathroom is clean and pretty.

I am completely obsessed with this patio furniture!  I need to find a seat just like this for my back yard.

Today has been fantastic! I had the day off work to take little miss Sassy to the neurologist!  right now all is looking good!  She is now on a medication maintenance program so hope she continues to do well! Yeah!
The sun was out in full force and I ate popsicles on the porch.  Read a few of my favorite blogs, and marked my favorite posts (see below) while listening to some really great music and did a bit of pinning!

DESIGN: Painted floors

Like or dislike??
I personally like them. A lot! I find myself dreaming of painting my stairs down to the basement. I saw this image and BAM, I am doing it! How perfect is that aqua colour on the treads! *sigh* so serene paired with the white walls, and a nice impact of black for the hand rail and the chair!! the shape is awesome, I love chairs that have unusual shapes.
I probably won't do this project until the fall, but until then I will dream of pretty steps!

I really love the shiny wide plank flooring painted white in this image. Clean, fresh and just pretty!  I love the little peek of cabriole leg and paw foot of the table.

And this flooring, painted black! eeee love how the dark floor helps ground the space and plays up the blue walls framed in dark fabric.

Do you like painted floors?

In Memory: Ray C. Anderson

In Memory
Ray C. Anderson
Adored Chairman and Founder of Interface, Inc.

A man who truly has inspired and changed  my way of thinking, of creating and of doing.
I met Ray in 1995 as a young designer, I was truly inspired by his vision, his commitment and his leadership.  I am deeply saddened.  I encourage you to read about him is you don't know who he is. He will inspire you, I guarantee it!  He changed a company, his company that was wasteful to resourceful, one that has a mission that makes the planet a priority. He stopped plundering the earth, he started to protect this glorious planet by taking action!

I will honour his memory by keeping his vision alive!
Bless you Ray! May you rest in peace.

BAR: Little Lady

This past weekend I did a lot of cleaning and organizing in my basement.  I got another brain storm for my next project!!! Wine cellar, craft area and laundry room!!

The most important part of the project is the wine cellar & tasting room.
Key elements:
  • storage shelves for all my wine that I have stored in boxes
  • a counter with a wine refrigerator underneath and glass storage and other bar essentials
  • a table for tasting
  • a comfy seating area for relaxing
I need to do this on a budget since I am a bit strapped with the Sassy medical bills.  So, I am up for the challenge!

I hope to build it all out small sections at a time with the help of my friend.  Be on the look out for updates! Sketches will be forthcoming.

What projects do you have planned this summer?

DESIGN: Kitchen Love!

Even though I am happy with my kitchen update for the moment, I completely have fallen for this simple kitchen! the basket drawers, the large pendant over the farmer sink, the painted grey back splash... even the dish rack! Modern Country at its best!!  I look forward to the time, when I get to completely renovate my kitchen.

Do you love this kitchen as much as I do?

Sassy Update!

I am so exhausted! but feeling relieved. Sassy is now home!  She was staying at the Neurologist hospital.  (yes, can we say big bucks!! but anything to make her better!!!!)

She can now walk, slightly wobbly at times but she has energy and can walk and run and EAT! and DrinK by herself!!  I am so excited to get this far.
I want to THANK each and everyone of you who has sent me an email, text, comment on my dear pup. Sending well wishes and encouragement! It means the world to me that you all carried to say a special prayer, a thought and words for me and my pup!!

Well, they believe now that she has an infection in her brain. Crazy right! She is on meds and healing. We go back to Dr. Podell in two weeks for a follow up! He completely rocks!! I highly suggest you visit him if you have any animal that has a neurological disorder.  He is the best!!
Have a good night, just wanted to give a quick note on little miss sassy's condition!

QUOTE: Light and Dark

"I like light floors with dark walls.
The floor reflects the light shining down on it and pops it back up." ~Stan Topol

Stan Topal's office via House Beautiful

This room is incredibly inspiring! The shiny black patent walls, the white flooring, the artwork, the coffee table....
and the chairs.  Not so into that fabric on the sofa but the throw pillows make it more tolerable.  The shape is fantastic but the fabric not my favorite.

What are your thoughts of this room?
